The Pretty One (Fred)...

FRED's in El Cajon

We first met Fred at his Alpine outlet when the Boy and I unsuccessfully tried to eat his 2 lb Monster Alpine Burger (No. 150).

This place is an old Taco Bell and he and his partners did a great job converting it into a hamburger & hot dog stand with drive thru, outdoor seating for 20 and 32 seats inside.

The menu has quarter pound, half pound and three quarter pound burgers, patty melt, quarter pound hot dog, corn dog, cheesesteak, grilled cheese, BLT, chicken sandwich and chicken nuggets, as well as crinkle cut fries, onion rings, malts, shakes and sodas...

We missed seeing Fred (the pretty one) when we dropped by today but we'll stop by again soon.

We tried the quarter pounder for the wife and I accidentally ordered the Monster Burger, thinking it was a half pounder (it's a 3/4 pound chunk of ground beef) combo (with fries and soda). The bun is good and the burger patties are different from anything else we've had around here. The fries were hot and we will be back again soon. Our combined total was $11.28.

UPDATE: We've been back several times now and it's our favorite burger place in town. On our second visit, I had a single cheeseburger (hold the special sauce, add mayo), and stopped by twice more to get the photo of Fred (The Pretty One) above...
