Giorgino's
"Best cheesesteak in town"
This place is on the opposite corner of the block I lived on way back when (1970), literally a stone's throw from the edge of Balboa Park. They've been in business 5 years now but we only recently heard about it ("City Beat").
It's clean and neat inside, staff was personable, there's the obligatory big screen TV on the wall and we noticed half a dozen beer taps as well.
They carry a number of East Coast brands (Amoroso rolls, Tastykakes and half a dozen different sodas).
I had the mushroom cheesesteak with extra American cheese, a couple of Frank's sodas (Grape and Black Cherry) and the wife had the pastrami on sour dough. The cheesesteak was every bit as good as any I ever had (my cheesesteak creds go all the way to Philadelphia - 1969) the Black Cherry soda was a nice surprise and the wife liked her pastrami as well.
Will we go back?
In a second!
